Bristol business collaborate to support growth journey

A family run security business providing CCTV for construction sites is investing in fleet as it continues to grow to meet demand for its services.

 

First founded in 1999 by Gary Cately, We Are Security provided security guards to corporate and construction industry clients for 17 years, employing more than 100 staff at its peak.

Since Gary’s sons Luke and Billy joined the company in 2014, the company set out to create an affordable alternative to security staff, focused around cameras installed either on dedicated remote towers or in office-based systems.

We Are Security is today based out of offices in Winterbourne Down, near Bristol, and provides hundreds of security cameras at sites across the UK, enjoying significant and sustained growth.

The team are now forecasting annually increased turnover of around 20 per cent over the next three years, with demand for their services increasing as instances of theft and vandalism on building sites rise.

To support the growth We Are Security is investing in vehicles, with recent additions to their fleet including Ford Transit vans for product transport, as well as Land Rover Defenders to help reach inaccessible areas in rural locations for maintenance and installations.

The vehicles are being supplied by Bristol specialists Vanaways, with whom the brothers have enjoyed a mutually-beneficial relationship for the past three years.

“As demand for their services grows we’ll be here to continue to provide vehicles as and when they require them.”

When Billy and Luke joined the business in 2016, We Are Security owned just one vehicle. Since then the fleet has grown to seven, used by sales and management as well as for deployment and on-site maintenance.

“Shortly after Luke and I joined the business it became apparent that the cost of physical security guards was becoming prohibitive for our clients,” said Billy. “Technology was providing a better option for our clients.

“So we started designing and making our camera towers and sending them out to clients. They liked them, we never looked back and the company has been growing ever since.

“What’s important for us is that we have partners who share our values for quality and customer service. As such we’re very happy with the relationship with Vanaways – they care about us and look after us well.

“We’ll look forward to working with them as our business continues to expand.”

Vanaways, based at Ham Green near the M5 at Bristol, is itself undergoing spectacular current growth. In June last year the company was listed at 60 on The Sunday Times Hundred list of the UK’s fastest-growing companies and founders Adam Carter and Chris Jakeways recently announced targets to double turnover to £200m by the end of 2026.
