20 new murals to transform Weston-super-Mare as Weston Wallz
A massive wave of creativity is headed to Weston-super-Mare later this month. From Friday, July 17th to Sunday, July 26th, street artists from all over the UK will descend on the coastal town for the return of Weston Wallz.
The event will introduce 20 brand-new permanent murals, pushing the town’s expansive open-air gallery to a milestone of over 70 large-scale public art pieces.
Organised by the team behind Upfest, Weston Wallz has solidified its reputation as one of the UK’s premier street art celebrations. By uniting household names with promising new talent, the festival continues to produce striking public installations that honor community, imagination, and local heritage. Audiences are invited to observe the creatives working live at their canvases throughout the week before wandering through the finished mural route, which winds through the town centre and along the seafront.
This summer’s roster features an impressive mix of the South West’s most compelling muralists alongside celebrated national figures. Painting across the town will be Ajax Piper, Alex D, Bex Glover, Danksy, Georgie Webster, Irony, Jeru Nomi, Lou Harrison, Mister Tris, Mul, Perspicere, Peter Sheridan, Sadie Were, Sian Storey, Tech Moon, and Yeto. Representing a diverse array of disciplines—from illustration and portraiture to wildlife art and classic graffiti—each creative will leave behind a permanent landmark rendered in their signature style.
The highly popular S.M.Art Sprayjam and Workshops will also make a comeback at the Italian Gardens on July 25th and 26th, under the curation of local arts coordinator Lin Toulcher. Acting as a central hub for festival-goers, this gathering will feature an additional 25+ regional artists whose collective work will stay on public display until early September.
Leaving a positive, lasting footprint on the town remains a core mission for the organisers. This year, in a joint effort with Weston Town Council, North Somerset Council, and funding secured via Weston BID, the festival will completely revitalise ‘Artwork Alley.’ The walkway running past the former TJ Hughes building is set for a full deep clean, lighting upgrades, and fresh paint to make the pedestrian shortcut vastly brighter and more welcoming.
Inclusivity is woven into the fabric of the event, highlighted by two distinct community murals designed in partnership with local organisations like the South Weston Activity Network (SWAN). Furthermore, the returning ‘Scale Up’ initiative will offer up-and-coming local creators the chance to test their skills on expansive surfaces, mentoring the area’s next wave of muralists.
Upfest Festival Director Steve Hayles shared his excitement:
“One of the things that makes Weston Wallz special is the variety of artists we bring together. This year’s line-up spans everything from bold graphic illustration and fine art, traditional forms of street art, portraiture and large-scale storytelling, so every wall will offer something completely different. As well as introducing visitors to incredible artists from across the UK, we’re continuing to build a permanent outdoor gallery that belongs to the town and can be enjoyed by locals and visitors long after the festival has finished.”
Timed perfectly for the launch of the school summer break, Weston Wallz offers an excellent excuse to explore Weston-super-Mare through a visual lens—encouraging people to support independent shops, local cultural hubs, and public parks while the artwork comes to life. The event is proudly backed by funding from Arts Council England, Weston Town Council, Weston BID, Super Culture, and MTN Spray Paints.
