The latest batch of affordable homes at the Farleigh Fields development in Backwell has been handed over to a local housing provider, helping ease pressure on North Somerset Council’s housing waiting list.

Housing provider Alliance Homes has officially taken ownership of nine properties at the site off Farleigh Road, marking the occasion as the first tenants begin moving into their new homes.

In total, 27 of the 82 homes being constructed on the site will be transferred to Alliance Homes, split between social rent and shared ownership.

Alliance Homes, based in Portishead and Weston-super-Mare, manages over 7,000 homes across North Somerset and surrounding districts, offering a mix of rented, shared ownership, and sheltered accommodation.

Iain Lock, Chief Operating Officer at Alliance Homes, said:

“I’m delighted to see the first affordable homes handed over at Farleigh Fields. These much-needed new homes will give local families the opportunity to put down roots and be part of a thriving local community. This is another important step towards our goal of delivering 2,000 sustainable and affordable new homes across the region by 2033.”

Claire Burton, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, added:

“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Alliance once again to provide much-needed affordable housing for local people in Backwell, ensuring that the benefits of this development are felt across the community.”

The development project has also contributed to several local community initiatives, with donations made to organisations including Backwell Athletic Junior FC Girls, Backwell Playhouse, Ashton & Backwell United FC, and the Bristol Normandy Veterans
