The Grand Appeal and Aardman have just announced some exciting news. They’re celebrating 10 years since Bristol’s first Gromit Unleashed trail, and let me tell you, it was a real hit. Back in 2013, those original 80 sculptures brought in a whopping 1.2 million visitors and raised a cool £2.3m at auction.
But that’s not all, my friends. Gromit Unleashed didn’t stop there. Over the years, it’s managed to generate an incredible £20m (!) for The Grand Appeal, which is the charity supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital. Talk about making a difference!
Nicola Masters, the director of The Grand Appeal, is still pinching herself when she looks back on how this all started: “Back in 2013, we had no idea that Gromit Unleashed would become such a global sensation,” she said with amazement.
For Nicola Master and her team, Gromit Unleashed has become one of those moments they’ll never forget amidst their decades-long journey with The Grand Appeal. And trust me when I say they’ve had plenty of milestones along the way.
Can you imagine the sight of those first Gromits rolling into town on a steam train driven by none other than Nick Park himself? That moment will forever live on in their memories.
And who can forget the unbelievable six-hour-long queue to see the Greatest Dog Show on Earth exhibition at the former Habitat store in Clifton? Now that’s dedication right there!
You know who else is thrilled about this news? Mayor Marvin Rees of Bristol. He couldn’t be more proud of what The Grand Appeal has accomplished over the years – raising around £80m to build and support Bristol Children’s Hospital since way back in 1995! It’s truly phenomenal.
So mark your calendars for 2025, my friends. Another Gromit Unleashed trail is coming to Bristol, and you won’t want to miss it. Let’s keep supporting The Grand Appeal and making a difference in the lives of these incredible kids.
