It’s our Awards Ceremony and AGM today!

All welcome to join us this afternoon.

It promises to be an excellent afternoon – we will have a short AGM and Tony will be officially launching his book – A bucketful of Patience and selling them there. We are looking forward to presenting our BDAA Awards to many different organisations and individuals who are helping to raise dementia awareness throughout Bristol.

A Bucketful of Patience

We will be selling Tony’s book: A Bucketful of Patience at the Awards this afternoon and at our information stalls in the coming months. However, if you would like to order a copy and need it posted, please order direct from Bristol Books: https://www.bristolbooks.org/shop/abucketfulofpatience

Thank you

To everyone who continues to support our small charity. Every penny really does help us to make a huge difference and educate the communities of Bristol about dementia.

Our pilot project in Shirehampton has been going from strength to strength and Shirehampton Medical Centre have paved the way as an example of how small adjustments can make a difference to those living with dementia and other conditions.

We have been working with the community with the aim of making it the first dementia aware village in Bristol. 23 retailers, businesses and organisations have pledged to become dementia aware to date. 17 of those have had a building audit to identify areas that could be adjusted to make it a more accessible, welcoming space.

Jon Trott, Practice Manager at the centre worked with staff members on changing the signing throughout the building to enable people with dementia and other conditions to navigate easier. This will be used as an example for other practices as we roll the project out to other villages across the city.

He said: Having experience of providing primary care to patients with dementia for some time, we thought that our signage was clear, and our Health Centre was already configured to be dementia-friendly. However, we were very grateful to Lisa and her colleagues for offering to audit the building and help us improve and come up to date with current best practice. Lisa and her colleague were able to advise us of some simple improvements we could make immediately to further help our patients, and also some longer-term ideas (eg floor coverings etc) for us to take on board and to pass to the Landlord.

We have refreshed our signage in-house and Lisa was happy to come back to give us both approval and some more guidance, with the result that our Health Centre is already a better place for our patients to visit. We look forward to working more with Lisa and her team in the future.
