Bristol Set to get new train stations

A significant enhancement to public transportation may soon be underway with the prospective introduction of four new train stations in Lockleaze, St Anne’s, Saltford and Ashton Gate. The cost-analysis for this substantial project is due to commence imminently by subject matter experts at the West of England Combined Authority.

 

Establishing stations at both Lockleaze and Ashton Gate not only serves a practical purpose but creates an added convenience for sports enthusiasts desiring direct access to Bristol’s principal football arenas – namely Rovers and City. Moreover, Saltford situated between Keynsham and Bath as well as St Anne’s which currently receives inadequate bus service are strategically placed alongside the core railway route towards London.

 

On January 26th, during a proposed public consultation meeting, it is anticipated that £100,000 will be sanctioned toward advancing this venture. A comprehensive report presenting these plans suggests further financial specifics related to its feasibility should become available in ensuing year.

 

 

Report said: “Ensuring high-calibre public transport alternatives forms a vital component for instigating changes in travel behaviours while lessening road trips within the region overall. Ongoing investment in expanding our rail network plays an important role in reducing carbon emissions from transport – standing currently at 44 percent -, contributing towards achieving set net-zero objectives.”

 

The study concludes by indicating its intent to pinpoint those stations exhibiting optimal performance for subsequent business case development procedures. Following initial stages certain station proposals could face elimination if deemed untenable while alternative transportation remedies may surface addressing previously identified challenges within these regions.

 

The ongoing study of new stations is a significant component of an extensive programme dedicated to railway enhancements. This initiative encompasses a thorough exploration into augmenting the frequency of services on the Severn Beach line and improving station accessibility for those with disabilities or pushchairs.

 

 

However, immediate construction of these proposed new stations has not been scheduled. The authority in charge anticipates that by summer next year, the project’s outline business case would be formulated. This means by that anticipated date, they should have a detailed understanding concerning construction costs and design requirements.

 

In relation to established progressions within this operation, last summer witnessed the inauguration of a new train station at Portway Park and Ride; currently another one is under construction at Ashley Down. The plan further includes potential future sites at North Filton, Henbury, Charfield, Pill and Portishead.
