Families visiting Brunel’s SS Great Britain this summer can enjoy a botanical sticker trail. Inspired by Victorian plant hunters, children of all ages can track down all the exotic plants onboard until 1 September 2024). Everyone who takes part is rewarded with a prize to take home and grow.

In its day, the SS Great Britain transported royalty, nobility, and sports stars. This year, the team behind the iconic vessel is marking the ship’s role in horticultural history by celebrating its lesser-known plant passengers.

Six Wardian cases on the top deck feature new permanent exhibits as an array of orchids, ferns, rhododendrons and other living plants take centre stage in Victorian mini greenhouses, bringing the story of global plant journeys to life for the first time.

Families can enjoy even more fun and great value during the summer holidays (until 1 September 2024).

Each day over the summer holiday, visitors get to peek inside one of the cases, usually kept closed during voyages to provide a unique microclimate for the two months at sea.

Bristol’s top-rated attraction has also introduced a new multimedia tour brimming with fascinating audio and video content that allows visitors to delve deeper into the ship’s story than ever before. The Bloomberg Connects app can be downloaded free of charge before even visiting the ship.

These experiences add to the attraction’s existing undercover spaces, including two museums, a dry dock, a ship, and a covered picnic area, making a family day out truly weatherproof.
