Shirehampton Poppies On The Green Needs Your Help

Published On: September 26th, 2024

The ‘Painting Poppies Sessions’ are back and you can paint red or purple poppies made from plastic bottles to add to the growing displays on The Green and the local railway station in Shirehampton.

The first ‘Painting Poppies’ session takes place at the High Street Market at the Tithe Barn in Shirehampton, BS11 0DE, on Thursday 3rd October from 9am until 2pm.

A further two ‘Painting Poppies’ sessions will be at the Shirehampton Art & Craft Exhibition that takes place at the Public Hall, Station Road, BS11 9TX from 30th October until 2nd November. Time and days to be confirmed that will be posted on the FaceBook page.

We also need the bases of plastic bottles that are used with fizzy drinks and some water bottles. Please drop the cut out bottle bases into the Public Hall, Station Road, BS11 9TX throughout October. A box will be in the porchway to drop these items into.

If you knit or crochet red and purple poppies and want to donate them to the ‘Poppies On The Green’ display please pop them into the Public Hall. A box will be available in the porchway to drop your poppies off.

As always we will be in need of volunteers to help with placing the displays on The Green during November and for take down later in the month. Dates to be confirmed.

Keep an eye out for posters in the shops as well as checking out the FaceBook page: www.facebook.com/poppiesonthegreen for updates.

These displays, including the Daisy Field with the War Horse, remember all from the Four Villages who lost their lives or returned home, not only for WWI and WWII but the conflicts that followed to present day. We will always remember them.
