IMPERMANENCE unveils groundbreaking Spring/Summer 2025 opening season

IMPERMANENCE, Bristol’s leading contemporary dance company, has today unveiled its inaugural Spring / Summer 2025 season at The Mount Without. Kicking off the season with CRASHOUT (Tuesday 4 – Thursday 6 March) – a groundbreaking site-specific solo performance by Marikiscrycrycry – the Spring / Summer lineup features six electrifying shows from internationally renowned choreographers.

With this ambitious programme, IMPERMANENCE signals a new era for dance in Bristol. Directors Roseanna Anderson and Joshua Ben-Tovim, both accomplished choreographers and dancers, have carefully curated a season that brings together a diverse range of choreographic voices and innovative approaches. This is “the largest and most dynamic dance programme the city has seen in decades”, reinforcing the company’s commitment to providing a platform for cutting-edge work.

Made possible by a generous multi-year grant from Jerwood Foundation, IMPERMANENCE’s programme at The Mount Without is poised to become a vital platform for the development of dance in the UK.

CRASHOUT opens the season with a visceral and powerful exploration of dark fantasy, emotional tension and complex symbolism. Marikiscrycrycry’s new solo work engages with ancient iconography and the personal experience of rage, regret and healing.

“The season isn’t just about showcasing incredible dance,” said Joshua Ben-Tovim, Co-Director of IMPERMANENCE. “It’s about creating a space for transformative ideas to thrive, for artists to push boundaries and for audiences to engage with something truly special. CRASHOUT sets the tone for what’s to come.”

Following CRASHOUT, the season continues with five more exceptional performances, each offering a unique perspective on identity, culture and the human experience:

Tuesday 8 – Thursday 10 April: AFTER ALL by Solène Weinachter – A deeply moving exploration of death, loss and the transition between worlds, blending dance, theatre and comedy to create a space for collective contemplation.

Monday 12 – Tuesday 13 May: Songs of the Bulbul by Aakash Odedra – A stunning collaboration between two Sufi Kathak masters, blending spiritual Sufi poetry and the intense physicality of Kathak dance.

Wednesday 14 May: To Be Continued – A mixed bill of short works-in-progress by IMPERMANENCE and guest choreographers, with an in-depth post-show talk offering audiences a glimpse of new ideas and creative processes.

Tuesday 17 – Thursday 19 June: ELEFANTIN by Cree Barnett-Williams – A dance-theatre satire confronting the expectations of female image, sexuality, and empowerment in pop culture, with a nod to the iconic Barbie.

Tuesday 8 – Thursday 10 July: Hope Hunt and the Ascension into Lazarus by Oona Doherty – An award-winning, dance theatre piece exploring masculinity, morality, and nostalgia through powerful character transformations.
