Bristol Local Ryan Davies Wins Prestigious “Oscar of Hospitality” Award
Bristol-based hospitality leader Ryan Davies has been named Regional Manager of the Year at the Foodservice Cateys, one of the most prestigious awards in the catering and hospitality industry, often referred to as “the Oscars of hospitality.”
The glittering ceremony, held last Friday at the Royal Lancaster London, celebrated the very best in the UK’s foodservice sector. Among the national talent recognised on the night, it was Bristol’s own Ryan Davies who took centre stage, applauded for his inspiring leadership and people-first approach that has transformed the South West region for leading caterer BaxterStorey.
Starting his hospitality career in the early 2000’s with weekend shifts in pubs, Ryan has worked his way up, joining contract caterer BaxterStorey in 2012. Since stepping into his role as Account Director in 2023, Ryan’s 200 strong team works with some of Bristol’s most recognisable businesses and destinations, from the landmark EQ building, where the team run the events space and Press café, a popular coffee spot with locals; to Osborne Clarke, where his focus on fresh, seasonal food and great service has helped create a more vibrant workplace dining experience.
Beyond the day job, Ryan has made a real mark in the local community. He joined forces with independent UK law firm Burges Salmon and award-winning local chef Josh Eggleton to host a charity banquet that raised nearly £10,000 for local causes. He’s also helped launch sustainability initiatives such as Generation Soil, which turns food waste into natural fertiliser now being used in flower beds and gardens across Bristol.
Ryan is equally passionate about inspiring the next generation. Through the Adopt a School programme, he and his team visit local schools to teach children practical cooking skills and encourage healthy eating – lessons that have already made the local news.
Speaking after his win, Ryan said:
“When I heard my name for Regional Manager of the Year, I couldn’t believe it! It’s such a proud moment to see the South West recognised too. Leading this team has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. Seeing people grow, connecting with Bristol’s incredible food community, and supporting projects that really make a difference. I couldn’t have done it without such a passionate and ambitious team around me – they make everything we achieve possible.”
