Green Party response to SEND social media monitoring independent review
Councillor Ellie Freeman, who sits on the Children and Young People Policy Committee said,
“As a SEND parent myself, I know how important it is to get the right support so our children can thrive.
“I also know that culture change in an organisation like the Council starts at the very top.
“What is clear from this report and from my experience on this committee is that the culture set by the previous Labour leadership, who were in charge of SEND for eight years, was unacceptable.
“There was a clear lack of leadership resulting in a high churn of senior officers and poor staff morale. This is not the fault of the junior staff involved at the time – the political leadership clearly cared more about what was said online over the wellbeing of parents and children.
“This has changed. Under this administration’s ‘committed and determined political and corporate leadership’, Ofsted has recognised that positive change is being brought to children in Bristol, and our workforce morale is high.
“This administration is also committed to transparent and collaborative decision making with the voices of SEND parents and children front and centre. So we can tackle these challenges the best we can.
“Anyone with any concerns or ideas on what we can do better will always be welcome to come to a committee meeting to make their voice heard.
“Through proper communication, we can make sure that our work is focussed solely on what we can do to continue to improve our services for children and parents, without distraction.
