Sustainable Fashion Week 2026 Expands Across South West with 105 Community Climate Events

BRISTOL, UK — Sustainable Fashion Week will return across Bristol and the South West from Saturday, 26 September to Sunday, 4 October 2026, launching a nine-day programme of more than 105 workshops, exhibitions, and community clothes swaps aimed at curbing textile waste.

Organised by Bristol-based organisation A Single Thread under the theme Threads of Resistance, the 2026 initiative targets the environmental footprint of fast fashion. Organisers report that grassroots activities tied to the event have diverted approximately 70,640 garments from landfill since 2023 through mending, swapping, and upcycling.

“Threads of Resistance is about recognising the power that already exists in our hands, our wardrobes, and our wallets,” said Amelia Twine, founder of Sustainable Fashion Week. “The fashion industry encourages a constant cycle of buying and replacing, but choosing to repair, swap, buy second-hand, or support an independent maker is a direct way to push back.”

Twine noted that the initiative focuses on practical skills sharing: “Fashion action is climate action because clothing production carries a heavy footprint. Showing that a different fashion model is possible starts at the local community level.”

Bristol City Centre and South Bristol Programme

The 2026 schedule includes hands-on maker sessions, panel discussions, and creative workshops across central and neighbourhood hubs:

BS3 Slow Fashion Fest: Community clothes swap, visible repair stations, screen printing, and denim upcycling workshops in South Bristol.
Sparks Bristol: Slow Fashion Day, hosted in partnership with Rethrindle and Rebel Patch, examining supply chains and alternatives to high-street retail.
Bristol Folk House: Visible mending and Japanese sashiko stitching masterclasses led by textile specialist Ronnie Wright.
Creative Space (Bedminster): Practical garment alterations and fit-adjustment classes.
Children’s Scrapstore: Material reuse and creative recycling workshops designed for families and young makers.
Brandon Trust: Charity retail initiatives across the city, including a community window-weaving installation at the Cotham Hill store.
Special Screenings & Panels: A screening of Woman Grows Jeans, followed by an industry policy debate with Anna Bryher, Policy Lead at Labour Behind the Label, and a sustainable styling session featuring Smart Works Bristol and stylist Becky Barnes.

Regional Events in Bath and Somerset

Beyond Bristol, the regional programme expands into Somerset and Wiltshire:

Climate Hub Bath (26 Sept – 4 Oct): The Wearing Resistance: Clothing, Activism and Change exhibition, tracking the historical link between garments and political action.
Frome Wardrobe Collective: A large-scale community clothing exchange aimed at circulating existing garments in Somerset.

Launched in Bristol in 2021, Sustainable Fashion Week has expanded across the UK as a decentralised, community-led platform providing consumers with practical alternatives to rapid textile consumption.
