Community radio station BCfm, in partnership with the NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB, has this week released Real Women Talk Health, a six-part podcast designed to give women and those who support them clear, jargon-free guidance on key health topics.

Hosted by award-winning broadcaster Sherrie Eugene-Hart alongside her team, each short episode tackles a different subject – menopause, periods, cervical screening, contraception, pelvic health and sexual health – featuring local expert guests, sharing honest experiences, and signposts to local support.

Women’s health issues deserve a platform that’s both informative and engaging,” says Host Sherrie Eugene-Hart. “I’m thrilled to guide these conversations. Whether you’re navigating menopausal changes or simply checking your cervical health, Real Women Talk Health is here to demystify the facts and point you towards practical, local help.”

NHS women’s health specialist Dr Katherine Kearley-Shiers said: “I’ve loved seeing how this practical audio approach opens up conversations. By combining lived experience with expert advice and local signposting, Real Women Talk Health offers an innovative model for delivering public health information in a way that really resonates.”

Availability

Real Women Talk Health is free to listen on all major podcast platforms, including on SpotifyApple and Amazon, as well as on the BCfm website. The series also appears on the NHS Well Aware website, a local public directory for health and wellbeing services, self-care tools and local community support. The podcast is being shared with local GP practices and health professionals across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire so that they can signpost patients to them where relevant.

Why it matters

Although women interact with health services throughout their lives, many feel terminology and appointments can be confusing or intimidating. This podcast series offers a simple, accessible alternative – listening as you cook, commute or unwind – while always pointing to trusted NHS-backed services nearby.

Mendip cons

From busting menopause myths and explaining how cervical screening works, to advice on contraception choices, pelvic floor exercises and testing for sexually transmitted infections, Real Women Talk Health aims to empower women and those who care about them to live healthier, fitter and happier lives.
