Out and about in Brislington West with Jos and Andrew

Brislington street scene and greening plans:

In 2021, £4.7m was awarded to Bristol City Council to help our city centre and local shopping areas recover from the effects of the pandemic with the principal aim of encouraging more visitors. Thus far, the focus has been on cultural events and providing grants to encourage businesses to take on vacant commercial properties.

The next stage is environmental improvements, something we have been pushing for in our meetings with council officers since 2021. Proposals for Brislington Hill and Bristol Hill include additional seating, more bins, parklets, tree planting and planters. There will be a face-to-face drop-in session at St Luke’s Church Hall on Wednesday, 22 November from 1pm to 3pm. There will also be an online session on the same day from 6pm to 7:15pm. Remembrance weekend:

Thank you to everyone who came to our Armistice Day service at the Brislington War Memorial on Saturday. It was a moving ceremony in which we paid our respects to those in our community who made the ultimate sacrifice. The words of our church leaders were made more poignant when we thought about those today who are still experiencing the horrors of conflict.

We will be removing the knitted poppies this week and keeping them safe for next year. On Remembrance Sunday, we attended the city’s official Remembrance Day commemorations at the Cenotaph. We were honoured to represent the people of Brislington at that event.
