The implementation of a bus priority scheme at the Brockley Combe junction
The implementation of a bus priority scheme at the Brockley Combe junction of the A370, initially anticipated for completion in mid-March 2024, is now slated for conclusion by early April 2024.
Unforeseen complications involving supplementary drainage requirements and technical aspects related to resurfacing have necessitated an extension in the timeline.
Traffic control measures are scheduled to be enacted over Easter bank holiday weekend. Motorists are encouraged to meticulously plan their travels by consulting One Network (https://one.network/uk), Google Maps or availing themselves of local traffic updates prior to embarking on journeys.
Provisions have been made to ensure access continuity to local commercial entities during these works – these include, but are not limited to, Brockley Stores, Fountain Timber and Bristol Airport. Consequently, commencement of planned enhancements at Wood Hill will be deferred till mid-April due this shift in timetable.
Cllr Hannah Young, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at North Somerset Council, said: “Thank you very much for bearing with us as we near the completion of this scheme. The works have taken longer than expected due to the site’s complexity, with unforeseen issues with drainage and resurfacing works.”
The changes at Brockley Combe include:
- New bus lanes Bristol and Congresbury-bound tackling delays caused for buses heading from the airport and in both directions on the A370.
- Changing the current right turn into Brockley Lane and moving it to Chelvey Road further on the A370, to enable the junction to work more efficiently in light of the increasing number of vehicles using the junction.
The scheme forms part of North Somerset’s UK Government-backed Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) to create the conditions to implement and grow the sustainable bus services our communities want and need.
The BSIP is funded by the Department for Transport. More information on the Bus Improvement Service Plan can be found on the council website: n-somerset.gov.uk/bsip
