Collection dates for Christmas trees in Bristol

Bristol Waste collected a staggering 187 tonnes of Christmas trees last year, equivalent to about 26,600 trees or a festive area spanning 7.3 football pitches.

In January, Bristol Waste will be conducting their regular bin collections across the city, including the collection of old Christmas trees. Between January 15 and January 26, households in Bristol can expect their trees to be collected on one of ten designated dates.

The dedicated bin staff will collect real Christmas trees that are no more than two metres tall during their normal routes. Alternatively, residents can drop off their trees at a local recycling centre.

As for holiday cards, they can indeed be recycled along with cardboard as long as they are free from glitter. Batteries and fairy lights can also find new life through proper recycling in the black box, provided they are contained in small untied bags.

However, it’s worth noting that wrapping paper cannot be recycled. It should be disposed of in black wheelie bins alongside other household rubbish. Garden waste and bulky collection services for Bristol residents will resume on Monday, January 22.

To determine the specific date when your Christmas tree will be collected, you can utilise Bristol City Council’s postcode checker. It is advised by Bristol Waste that residents place their rubbish out before 6am on their given collection day to ensure prompt disposal.
