** Two more disco balls were installed last night: One at Queen Shilling On Frogmore Street and another Four Wise Monkeys on Corn Street. **

The disco balls represent a celebration of restrictions being lifted this week and the return of those businesses that have been closed due to the pandemic.

#LoveBristol Disco Balls bring sparkle onto city streets

Glittering handmade disco balls have appeared this week on Bristol’s streets to mark the last stage of reopening the city’s businesses, as part of the #LoveBristol campaign from Bristol City Centre BID.

A shimmering giant pink disco heart was the first to be installed on King Street, followed by another giant disco ball on Nicholas Street, bringing sparkle to the city this summer.

Last night two further disco balls were installed at Queen Shilling On Frogmore Street and Four Wise Monkeys on Corn Street.

This marks this much anticipated time when all businesses including those in the later night economy are able to re-open and safely welcome people back. The installations also reflect the sunlight adding to a sense of brightness and joy as the city continues on its path to recovery.

The ‘Love Songs To the City’ street banners have also been illuminated, inviting Bristolians and visitors to the city to sing along to some of the world’s most iconic love songs as they spend their evenings socialising in the city centre’s businesses. Dining, chatting, drinking and dancing are all now open to be safely enjoyed here in Bristol.

Vicky Lee, Operations Director at Bristol City Centre BID explains;

“Bristol is a city of music and culture with worldwide recognition for our amazing restaurants, bars and venues. The restrictions of the last 18 months have seen many of these businesses hardest hit and many are fully opening for the first time again this week. This latest addition to our #Love Bristol campaign sends a message of joy and togetherness

“Bristol has really embraced the #LoveBristol campaign, ensuring that we enjoy the city centre, whilst being respectful of each other and putting safety at the heart of everything we do.”

These bespoke installations have been specially made in Bristol to send twinkling lights into Bristol’s pedestrianised and low traffic areas throughout the daytime and evening. King Street’s pink heart shaped installation continues the love theme which began in June 2020 with hearts in parks.

The #LoveBristol campaign is spearheaded by the Bristol City Centre BID supported by Visit Bristol. Each location of the #LoveBristol Disco Balls and Love Songs To The City can be found on the Visit Bristol website, as well as a Spotify playlist to enjoy alongside the lyrics on the streets.

Bristol is being asked to put kindness, tolerance and understanding at the heart of our individual choices and collective decision-making over the coming weeks.

Current guidance recommends wearing a face covering in crowded indoor spaces where that will keep people safe and limit the spread of the virus.

Showing respect for others, including frontline workers in our many businesses will keep us all safe and keep the businesses open.

As Covid-19 lockdown restrictions start to ease, #LoveBristol is a yearlong initiative that sees the city working together to support retailers, hospitality, businesses and the community to recover from the pandemic. It is supported by Business West, the new Redcliffe and Temple BID, Cabot Circus and Broadmead BID, in partnership with the One City Economy Board and Bristol City Council.
