Call for runners to donate old outer layers of clothing at Great Bristol Run
Are you taking part in this year’s Great Bristol Run on 14 May? If so, please consider wearing old outer layers that you can discard and donate at the start of the race.
Volunteers from Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) will be at the start line of the 10k and Half Marathon races to collect any unwanted layers. The charity’s retail team will then sort them into sellable items and those that can be recycled to raise money for GWAAC. Everyone’s a winner!
Why the Great Bristol Run has teamed up with GWAAC
“We know our runners discard clothing on our start lines as they get ready to start their challenge and teaming up with the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity in Bristol will help raise funds for this important cause, whether through sale at one of their charity shops or through recycling,” said Paul Foster, Chief Executive of the Great Run Company.
“Mass participation sport drives fantastic benefits for the people who take part, their communities and the charities and causes they run for. Partnerships like these not only help us to improve the environmental sustainability of our events, but also help us to support important local charities like this.”
Unwanted clothing will help people like Steve
Former patient, Steve Hale, also urges people to donate their clothing to GWAAC at the Great Bristol Run:
“I’d like to encourage runners to bring and donate unwanted items of clothing to Great Western Air Ambulance Charity. I needed their help in 2019 and took part in the Great Bristol Half Marathon last year in support of the charity. Donating clothing will help keep this vital service operational.”
As well as being at the start line to collect unwanted layers of clothing, GWAAC has some runners taking part in the race, including a Heartstarters volunteer, who is running the half marathon in an old crew suit and helmet. Wish her luck!
