Biggest Halloween across Bristol this weekend in 12 years

Published On: October 30th, 2026

As thousands prepare for Bristol’s biggest Halloween in 12 years this weekend, the team behind Bristol Safe Space at Night is reminding night-out goers that free, non-judgemental welfare and medical support is available on Central Promenade.

Operating every Friday and Saturday night from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM, the dedicated hub is located opposite the Bristol Hippodrome. Delivered in partnership by Bristol BID and Avon and Somerset Police, the initiative provides a safe environment for visitors who find themselves separated from friends, facing minor injuries, or needing time to regroup.

Early data from September shows the service recorded 10 key interventions in its first week alone, with the majority focusing on welfare and vulnerability support.

On-Site Facilities & Practical Help

Recognisable by its branded gazebo and flags on the promenade, the Safe Space offers a wide range of practical aid for anyone out in the city centre:

  • Medical & First Aid Support: Staffed by a qualified first responder from Bristol Ambulance alongside CR2 Security marshals.

  • Essential Equipment: Free mobile phone charging stations, drink spiking test kits, blister plasters, period products, and sexual health supplies.

  • Safe Haven: A quiet spot to rest, regroup, and arrange pre-booked transport home.

  • Multi-Agency Referrals: Direct communication links to emergency services, police, and local support organisations including Hope Against Suicide and Bristol Street Pastors.

The service is designed for low-level assistance and welfare checks; it does not book or pay for travel and does not replace emergency medical response. (Note: Operations are suspended if the Met Office issues severe weather warnings during operating hours.)

Supporting Bristol’s Night-Time Economy

The regular weekend service follows successful pilot trials delivered in late 2024 and early 2025.

Louisa Briggs, Project Manager at Bristol BID, highlighted the hub’s role in making the city centre welcoming:

“Bristol has a brilliant nightlife and we want people to know there’s a friendly place they can turn to when their night doesn’t quite go to plan. It doesn’t need to be an emergency, sometimes you just need to charge your phone, sit down for ten minutes or have someone help you work out what to do next.

“We want it to feel approachable and easy to use, with no judgement, no drama, just a bit of backup when you need it.”

DI Emily Welch of Avon and Somerset Police added:

“The earlier pilots showed us the many different ways a service like this can support people, and having a consistent, recognisable place to go means people can get help with smaller issues before they become bigger ones.”
