Kings Chase Shopping Centre Post Office to Close in November with 6 Month Void
KINGSWOOD — The Post Office branch inside the Kings Chase Shopping Centre will permanently close its doors this November, leaving Kingswood facing at least a half-year gap without a dedicated branch.
The shutdown follows a commercial decision by private operator TG Jones to withdraw from the site. Despite behind-the-scenes talks involving South Gloucestershire Council, centre managers Praxis, local councillors, and Bristol North East MP Damien Egan, efforts to secure continuous, uninterrupted service at the shopping centre have fallen short.
Post Office management has confirmed plans to open a replacement facility elsewhere in Kingswood. However, officials warned there will be an operational gap of at least six months between the King’s Chase closure and the launch of a new site, which may also offer a reduced range of counter services at an unconfirmed location.
Community Impact & Banking Blow
The impending closure delivers a significant blow to local high street footfall, particularly for elderly residents, people with disabilities, and small businesses reliant on over-the-counter banking, cash deposits, and parcel handling.
Woodstock ward councillor Alison Evans expressed concern over the disruption:
“Post offices play a vital role in our communities, providing access to banking, bill payments, parcel services, and everyday transactions. While we are pleased plans are underway for a new provision in Kingswood, we will continue pushing to ensure it is in place as quickly as possible with full service coverage.”
Push for a Long-Term Replacement
The service suspension comes as Kingswood undergoes broader town-centre regeneration and investment.
Bristol North East MP Damien Egan, who met directly with Post Office leadership, confirmed talks remain ongoing:
“Kingswood is undergoing significant investment, and maintaining access to key community services must be part of that future. The Post Office engaged constructively and confirmed they intend to open a new branch, albeit not immediately. I will continue pressing the case until a sustainable local presence is secured.”
Details regarding the nearest alternative branches and transitional arrangements for King’s Chase customers are expected ahead of the final November closing date.
