Lord Mayor to Celebrate Shirehampton High Street Market’s 7th Anniversary
Shirehampton Market marks seven years of independent community trading with new street food vendors, live performances, and civic recognition.
SHIREHAMPTON, BRISTOL — Shirehampton High Street Market will mark its seventh anniversary on Thursday, 3 September, welcoming Bristol’s Lord Mayor alongside an expanded roster of local food producers and independent traders.
The community market first launched on 5 September 2019 at the Tithe Barn. After operating there for more than six years, the event relocated earlier this year to Shirehampton Methodist Church Hub at the junction of High Street and Penpole Avenue.
The management team—led by Ash, Katherine, and Kathryn—has steered the initiative through the disruptions of the pandemic, escalating living costs, and the recent venue relocation.
“Without the ongoing support of local residents across the Four Villages, this market would not be here today,” the management team said in a statement. “Reaching seven years demonstrates the strength of the local community and the appetite to back independent high street traders.”
The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Yassin Mohamud, is scheduled to attend as the guest of honour to cut the official anniversary cake, address attendees, and meet the traders and volunteers who run the monthly market.
The September edition also marks a seasonal expansion for the market’s catering offering. Alongside a core roster of ten artisan food stalls—ranging from local cheeses and preserves to baked goods—three street food vendors will make their regular debut: Food By Sophie, The Gourmet Warriors, and The Tipsy Waffle.
Cultural and community programming will run alongside the trading stalls. Bristol author Tim Kindberg will appear from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM to sign copies of his latest book, Future Song, with live acoustic music provided in the main hall by musician Sarah Warren.
The event will also host community support stalls offering public guidance on health, winter fuel planning, and local initiatives, including interactive poppy-painting workshops for the upcoming Poppies on the Green display.
Shirehampton High Street Market takes place on the first Thursday of every month from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Shirehampton Methodist Church Hub.
