Women’s Rugby World Cup Brings Visitor Boost to Bristol

Bristol’s hosting of two quarter-finals and both semi-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 at Ashton Gate Stadium has delivered a major boost for the city.

Across the four matches, more than 92,000 fans came from the UK and overseas. Many extended their stay to enjoy the city’s hotels, restaurants, shops, attractions and the buzzing Fan Zone, helping deliver a significant uplift for the visitor economy.

Among those joining the celebrations were international rugby personalities and well-known public figures, who highlighted Bristol as a welcoming and vibrant host city.

Local hoteliers reported some of their busiest weekends in years, with occupancy levels surpassing 90% and revenues rising by up to 30%. “The Women’s Rugby World Cup had a tremendous impact on the city’s hospitality sector,” said one industry representative.

The Fan Zone at Canon’s Marsh Amphitheatre proved another highlight, with thousands gathering to watch matches on the big screen and enjoy free activities, music, and cultural performances. Organisers praised the atmosphere, describing it as inclusive, energetic and uniquely Bristol.

With widespread positive feedback and strong visitor numbers, the tournament has cemented Bristol’s place as a leading destination for international sport. The city is now preparing to welcome global cricket fans when it hosts matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
