Bristol-Based Technology company, Welcomes Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding OBE to Celebrate King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation
One Big Circle, a Bristol-based SME, was proud to welcome Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding OBE to their office for a special reception in recognition of receiving the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
This award celebrates One Big Circle’s pioneering Automated Intelligent Video Review (AIVR) technology, which is helping transform safety and efficiency within the UK rail industry. Since its founding in 2017 by the four founders, Barnaby Kent, Ian Packer, Sam Low and Emily Kent, One Big Circle has grown into a thriving company with over 60 jobs created locally, supporting specialist skills and training in the Bristol area.
The recognition of their success with the King’s Award highlights the company’s continued growth and commitment to driving innovation in Critical National Infrastructure. The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, is the highest official UK awards programme for British Businesses. 2024 marks the second year of The King’s Awards for Enterprise, reflecting His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s by recognising outstanding UK businesses.
In May 2024, One Big Circle was recognised for its ground-breaking AIVR technology. AIVR enables remote condition monitoring across the UK’s railway network by capturing high-definition imagery and data using Forward Facing Video, Thermal, Line-scanning, and Overhead cameras.
The technology enhances remote inspection capabilities, reduces the need for on-site presence, and improves both safety for railway workers and the overall efficiency of rail operations. During the visit, Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding was given an in-depth presentation from the One Big Circle team on how AIVR continues to drive innovation in the railway sector. She then toured the company’s offices, speaking with employees across departments such as Business Development, Finance, Engineering, and Software Development, learning how each team contributes to the success of the company’s innovative solutions and the diverse backgrounds of the team members.
To conclude the day, Peaches delivered a speech to the assembled company, sharing the history of the King’s Award and reading the official citation from His Majesty The King. She then presented the King’s Award trophy to the four founders, in recognition of their innovation in the UK rail industry. Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding OBE commented, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to One Big Circle for achieving the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Innovation – one of only 61 companies across the UK to achieve the Award in this category.
The application of innovation to both drive forward the safe inspection of railways and to reduce repair and maintenance costs brings about real time and money savings.“ Co-Founder of One Big Circle, Emily Kent, said, “It was a truly memorable day.
