Bristol author launches new children’s book
Bristol-based author Will Hamilton-Davies launched his new children’s book
The Mole and the Mound (and the House Underground) at Charlton Farm at an event hosted
by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Illustrated by Kasia Fryza, The Mole and the Mound is abrilliantly funny story about empathy and kindness.
The event, coinciding with Children’s Hospice Week which takes place this week, was attended by CHSW families, as well as librarians, teachers and fellow children’s authors and illustrators. In addition to celebrating the publication of The Mole and the Mound, the evening was an opportunity to raise much needed funds and contine Will’s long-standing support of the hospice. Heron Books, a local independent bookshop in Clifton, sold books at the event and operated a ‘buy it forward’ scheme in support of The National Year of Reading, enabling attendees to buy copies which will be gifted to National Literacy supported schools in the area.
A highlight of the evening was an exhibition of drawings based on the book from children at The Downs Preparatory School in Wraxall.

The work of children’s hospices canm be similarly overlooked, where, beneath the surface of what outsiders see, they are magnificent safehavens for young people and families, enriching young lives in ways many families don’t realise until circumstances change.
“It was a wonderful privilege promoting the hospice alongside The Mole and the Mound (and the House Underground), and I hope Mole goes on to continue spotlighting change for good, empathy and young readers who love rhythm and rhyming stories!”
