First Look at Bristol Light Festival 2027
The first wave of installations for the seventh edition of Bristol Light Festival has been revealed, with the free citywide event set to return from Thursday 18th to Saturday 27th February 2027.
Organised by Bristol BID and curated by multi-award-winning Creative Director Katherine Jewkes, the 10-day winter trail transforms public spaces across the city centre. Following a record 2026 event that attracted 200,000 visitors and generated over £11 million for the local economy, the 2027 programme features international debuts alongside pioneering local design talent.
First 2027 Artworks Announced
The preliminary lineup balances interactive soundscapes, giant inflatable structures, and immersive light installations:
-
Crocus Field by Jigantics: Making its festival debut, 100 illuminated crocus flowers standing nearly two metres tall will transform Bristol’s Old City into a shifting lawn of light.
-
Fired Up by Designs in Air (World Premiere): Created by the Bristol-based inflatable design team behind installations at the 2012 Olympics and Eden Project, this interactive giant campfire glows brighter as visitors engage with it.
-
Colossus by Louxor Spectacle (UK Debut): A monumental illuminated human figure set to be positioned alongside one of Bristol’s iconic landmarks (exact venue location kept secret until nearer the event).
-
Swing Song: The crowd-favourite interactive light and music swing set returns for its fourth edition, allowing visitors of all ages to compose a custom symphony through movement.
Boosting Bristol’s Night-Time Economy
The festival provides vital support for local hospitality, retail, and cultural venues during the quiet late-winter period.
Katherine Jewkes, Creative Director of Bristol Light Festival, noted:
*”One of the things I love most about Bristol Light Festival is bringing internationally acclaimed artists to the UK and setting their work alongside the incredible makers we have right here in Bristol.
“We’re proud to champion two brilliant local companies: Designs in Air… and Jigantics. Colossus adds another extraordinary international dimension… inviting everyone to get closer, play, and see the city differently after dark.”
Vicky Lee, Director of Place at Bristol BID, added:
“Bristol Light Festival has become one of the city’s most anticipated winter events, bringing hundreds of thousands of people into the city centre and creating a real buzz across our streets and neighbourhoods at a time of year when that extra footfall is so important.”
Admission to the festival remains completely free to the public. Further venue details, map routes, and artwork additions will be announced in early 2027.
