Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) will feature in Emergency 24/7, a brand-new six-part BBC Two documentary series following the emergency teams at Southmead Hospital.

Premiering on Tuesday 18 August at 21:00 on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, the series goes behind the scenes at Southmead’s Major Trauma Centre, tracking patient journeys from initial arrival through to ongoing hospital care.

GWAAC’s critical care team—wearing their signature orange flight suits—is expected to feature across the first four episodes, showcasing how specialist paramedics and doctors coordinate handovers with NHS hospital staff.

The series highlights the full spectrum of hospital staff involved in trauma care, including receptionists, porters, nurses, and specialist medical consultants.

Tim Ross-Smith, Operations Officer at GWAAC, explained the importance of showing this handover process:

“Emergency 24/7 gives people an opportunity to see a part of our crews’ work that many people may never have witnessed before. When our team arrives at hospital with a patient, that’s the point at which we hand over to our NHS colleagues and care continues.”
