Bristol Commemorates Remembrance Sunday
On Sunday, November 10th, military members and community leaders will participate in Bristol’s annual remembrance day.
The public is invited to observe both the service and the parade, which will be led by the 39 Signal Regiment. This procession will include various military units, cadet groups, veterans, and affiliated organizations gathering at College Green before marching towards the cenotaph around 10:20 AM.
The commemorative service is scheduled to start at 11 AM with a two-minute silence that will be initiated and concluded by gunfire. Following this moment of reflection, wreaths will be laid during a brief ceremony that also features the national anthem.
Councillor Andrew Varney, Lord Mayor of Bristol remarked, “On Remembrance Sunday, we encourage all residents of Bristol to join us in honoring those who sacrificed their lives in world wars and other conflicts. It is vital for our city to unite every year in memory of those we have lost.”
To facilitate this event, there will be several road closures and diversions throughout the city center starting from 5 AM until 5 PM; however, attendees should anticipate disruptions lasting most of the day and plan their travel accordingly. A towaway scheme will operate during this timeframe as well. Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles to properties will remain available throughout the event.
Roads affected include Anchor Road, Baldwin Street, Broad Quay, Canons Road, Christmas Street, Colston Avenue & Street; College Green; Denmark Street; Lewins Mead; Marsh Street; Nelson Street; Park Street; Prince Street; Quay Street; Queen Charlotte Street; Rupert Street; St Augustines Parade; Unity Street; Small Street & St Stephens Avenue.
