Four women from Bristol row 440 miles around the coastline of the Isle of Skye in ‘Eco’ boat
Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challengers, The Bristol Gulls, are rowing 440 miles of the wild coastline of Skye in their one-of-a-kind ocean rowing made up of thousands of recycled plastic bottles.
In an event organised by Sports and Marine Marketing company, GRM Marketing, The Bristol Gulls launched from the iconic Talisker Distillery and are now circumnavigating the island while taking in notable locations of archaeological, historical and geographical importance on Skye.
The Bristol Gulls, made up of Sofia Deambrosi, Lorna Carter, Phoebe Wright and Sarah Hunt are raising awareness for two brilliant causes during their campaign. The first is ocean pollution and sustainability with Clean Up Bristol Harbour benefiting from funds the Gulls raise. The second charity is the RNLI and drowning prevention.
The Bristol Gulls are working hard to be trailblazers during their Atlantic Campaign through their sustainable approach. The team have entered into an impressive partnership with Rannoch Adventure which will mean they are the first team to ever cross the Atlantic in the ‘Eco Boat.’ The ‘Eco Boat’ is as lightweight and strong as other state-of-the-art vessels but built in a way that has less impact on the environment.
Phoebe of The Bristol Gulls states;
“I couldn’t be more excited for my first trip to Skye and to experience the beauty I have heard so much about from the water. I feel very lucky to have this opportunity and after all the planning and preparations that have been done, can’t wait to get on the oars and row.
Hopefully the weather gods are in our favour and we are able to get some good miles in, whilst sharing our love for the ocean and sustainability message with the people we meet.

To add further notoriety to this event, The Bristol Gulls R45 rowing boat will be emblazoned with the recently launched first ever Isle of Skye flag.
The team will be aiming to complete their row on the weekend of Friday 4th September with the event supported by Talisker Whisky, destination management company Skye-Connect and Gael Force Group all who give important support to the Isle of Skye and its businesses and tourism.
