Rugby World Cup Trophy Arrives in Bristol as Countdown Begins

With less than 100 days until the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 kicks off, World Rugby has unveiled a stunning new trophy, set to arrive in Bristol this Friday, May 23rd, and Saturday, May 24th.

Bristol is a key host city, with Ashton Gate Stadium staging two quarter-final matches and both semi-finals this September.

Councillor Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, expressed his excitement: “With less than 100 days to go… we are excited to start our countdown to the games that will be held here in Bristol. As a fan of the sport myself, I am looking forward to Bristol hosting some of the best teams in the world and showing them all Bristol has to offer.”

Fans across Bristol have a unique opportunity to join the countdown celebrations. They can pose for photographs with the magnificent new trophy and try their hand at non-contact rugby alongside stars from Bristol Bears Women. Councillor Heather Mack, Deputy Leader of Bristol City Council, hopes this exposure will “inspire a new generation of women and girls in Bristol to get involved in rugby.” She encourages everyone, regardless of experience, to participate in the trophy tour events.

Experience the New Trophy: The new Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy will be on display at Millennium Square on Friday, May 23rd, from 12 pm to 6 pm. This sterling silver, 24-carat gold-plated trophy is a modern symbol of excellence, blending the iconic twin handles of the original with a sleek, oval design. Past champions’ names are engraved on its base, honoring the game’s trailblazers. Sally Horrox, World Rugby Chief of Women’s Rugby, stated, “This trophy represents far more than a tournament; it reflects a movement.”

Try Rugby with Bristol Bears Women: On Saturday, May 24th, from 12 pm to 3 pm, women and girls are invited to College Green to participate in a non-contact rugby session with players from Bristol Bears Women. This fun and welcoming environment is open to all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, requiring no prior experience.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 aims not only to deliver a world-class tournament but also to create a lasting, positive impact for women and girls in sport, inspiring more to take up the game.
