BBC Radio Bristol’s Joe Sims hosts Bristol Dementia Awards 2025
Bristol actor and BBC Radio presenter Joe Sims hosted the Bristol Dementia Awards for the second year running on Friday 10th October.
Joe kept everyone entertained as he shone a light on all the brilliant individuals, groups and organisations making a difference to the lives of those affected by dementia.
Joe said: “Isn’t it nice to come to an event to hear about so many amazing people who do so much… You make Bristol a better place to be and I’m proud of you all.”
Local charity Bristol Dementia Action Alliance was overwhelmed by the number of nominations received this year. The awards highlight the fantastic work taking place across the city to raise dementia awareness and support those impacted by dementia. The deciding panel included experts from organisations other than BDAA.
Finalists were treated to an afternoon tea at the Awards Ceremony at the Aztec Hotel & Spa who supported the event.

THE BARBARA AWARD – Westbury on Trym Primary School. This award is in celebration of Barbara Hall who founded BDAA with her husband Tony after her dementia diagnosis. BDAA Chair Tony Hall said: “We can’t thank Joe enough for making this a laughter-filled afternoon. There is so much tremendous work going on throughout the city raising dementia awareness and actively supporting those affected by the disease. It was wonderful to receive such varied applications for the different categories.
“BDAAs aim is to make Bristol a dementia aware city – we can’t do that alone but together we can have a positive impact on the lives of those affected by dementia.
“Everyone in this room is a dementia hero.”
