RECORD NUMBERS JOIN BRISTOL’S BIGGEST WEEKEND OF RUNNING
Over 24,000 runners take part in AJ Bell Great Bristol Run 2025
Entries for the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run 2026 are now open, after the city welcomed more than 24,000 runners over the weekend – cheered on by tens of thousands of supporters.
The popular 10k and half-marathon events on Sunday 11th sold out weeks in advance of the event, with demand for places stronger than ever. From the Heart Radio DJs at the start line through to the on-course entertainment & cheer zones, a live finish-line DJ and a busy après-run zone in Millennium Square, an energising atmosphere provided plenty of motivation throughout.
Half marathon top 3 results
Max Davis of Bristol & West AC took first place in the men’s half-marathon in 1:06:24, with Joseph O’Connell of Aldershot Farnham & District AC taking second in 1:06:54 and with Jack Millar of Bristol & West AC taking third in 1:08:08.
The women’s half-marathon race was won by with Rosie Hamilton-James of the Westbury Harriers in 1:15:58, followed by Hannah Alderson of Team Bath AC at 1:18:38 and Freya Bradley of Westbury Harriers coming in third in 1:20:05.
10k top 3 results
Dage Minors won the men’s 10k race in 30 minutes 24 seconds, while Morgan Roberts of Herne Hill Harriers came second in 30 minutes 52 seconds and Greg Hayward of Westbury Harriers took third in 31 minutes and 14 seconds.
Gemma Steel of Charnwood AC took first place in the women’s race in 34 minutes and 59 seconds, while Rhiannon Kirk of the Army Athletics Association came second in 36 minutes and 32 seconds and Sarah Trahair-Williams crossed the finish line third in 37 minutes and 33 seconds.
VI Runners
The AJ Bell Great Bristol Run 2025 also hosted the fifth annual Visually Impaired (VI) Runners 10k Challenge – the UK’s first dedicated race for blind and partially sighted runners.
Stuart Francis won the men’s race in 49 minutes and 33 seconds, with Mark Hutchings taking second in 50 minutes and 21 seconds and Steve Seaton taking third in 1:03:38.
Becky Forster took first place in the women’s race in 58 minutes and 4 seconds while Charlene Williams came second in 1:01:23 and Teresa Cryer took third in 1:09:52.
The weekend began with the first ever Junior & Mini event on Saturday 10 May, held in partnership with Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the dedicated charity for Bristol Children’s Hospital. There to cheer on the children were stars of the hit TV series Gladiators, Toby Olubi (aka Phantom) and Zack George (aka Steel).
Billed ‘Super Saturday’, the Minis (aged 3-8 years old) enjoyed a 1.5km dash and Juniors (aged 8-15) took on their own 2.5k challenge.
