Grade II listed Temperance House in Wraxall opens as a co-working hub with free Open House

The historic Grade II listed building formerly known as The Battleaxes pub is opening its doors to the public this autumn as Temperance House, a newly transformed venue for flexible working, meetings, and local community events.

Following an extensive restoration by development firm StudioHIVE, the North Somerset landmark has been reinvented as a modern workplace and community destination. The site now serves as the official headquarters for StudioHIVE and StudioHIVE Architects, alongside offering co-working suites and meeting spaces for local businesses.

To celebrate the opening, the venue is hosting a series of public events inviting neighbours, local professionals, and community members to explore the restored space.

Free Community Open House & Autumn Event Lineup

The inaugural public event invites residents and local business owners to tour the completed facilities and learn more about the long-term vision for the site.

  • Community Open House (Friday 9 October | 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM): Free to attend, featuring complimentary tea, coffee, and pastries. Visitors can take guided tours of the new Business Suites and co-working areas, meet the StudioHIVE team, and network with local professionals.

  • Festive Wine Tasting Evening (Thursday 12 November | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM): Hosted in partnership with Winscombe-based independent retailer The Wine Shop. The intimate, tutored session features seasonal wine pairings and stories behind selected bottles. Tickets are priced at £35 per person, with capacity strictly capped at 20 places.

Modern Workspace Preserving North Somerset Heritage

Beyond public events, Temperance House is now taking corporate bookings for its collection of professionally designed meeting rooms, breakout spaces, kitchen facilities, and landscaped outdoor gardens tailored for corporate away days and team-building activities.

Jason Collard, Managing Director of StudioHIVE and the driving force behind the redevelopment, emphasized the community focus of the project:

“Together, these first public events mark an exciting new chapter for Temperance House, opening up the building to the local community and showcasing the opportunities it offers as a place to work, meet, connect, and enjoy shared experiences.”
